Metroland Cultures is pleased to present an exhibition of work organised by current Peer to Peer artist Kim Chin.

Join us for the opening event of Connecting Threads – a group exhibition exploring the power of collective reciprocity and creativity as a catalyst for change. Themes include community organising, socially engaged practice, migration, memory, oral history.

Mediums include textiles, printmaking, embroidery, photography, and sonic contributions. The lo-fi accessibility and high impact of print, complement the slower meditative properties of textiles sewing and embroidery – both approaches have a deep history in the “fabric of society”, including protest and resistance.

The exhibition is co-produced by Kim Chin x Cloth of Gold archive, featuring participatory work created with residents and organisational staff at different community spaces who have worked with either artists.

Kim Chin seeks to inspire compassion towards people and the planet by celebrating cross-cultural influence through the intersection of the arts and social justice practice.

By interpreting traditional mediums in a contemporary way, Kim employs a combination visual arts processes with the intent of minimising material waste with maximum effect. Kim’s practice embodies methods of decolonisation, how to live well with differences, and creates pockets of community to support each other. These occur in creative educational, art and community-focused events and are practised daily.
