Are you interested in a creative career? Metroland Young Associates might be for you!

Metroland Young Associates is a paid opportunity for Brent young people, ages 18-24, to develop skills and experience of working in the arts and creative industries.

You might enjoy making or experiencing any kind of art - visual art, music, theatre, dance, etc, - or want to get involved behind the scenes working in a gallery, theatre or music venue or organising parties or other events. Or you might be interested in design or working in digital - there are lots of different opportunities!

We are looking for 20 Young Associates to work together to create a programme of events that will happen alongside Brent Biennial 2022, a visual arts festival and exhibition happening all over Brent this summer.

You’ll get access to:

  • Workshops with industry professionals - from artists to designers, producers and technicians

  • Support and a budget to create and deliver your own events

  • Training to host visitors to Brent Biennial exhibitions and events

  • Peer mentors from the hugely successful Blueprint group, formed as part of Brent 2020, the London Borough of Culture

  • Help with developing a plan for your own career in the arts or another creative sector, including support to access further employment and education opportunities

  • Influence on Metroland’s future, helping us decide how to best ensure everyone in Brent has access to the arts, to creative jobs and that the world sees how rich our borough’s culture is

  • The chance to earn an Arts Award qualification

  • Support from a dedicated programme facilitator and youth worker

Metroland Young Associates is for people who are:

  • Living in Brent or with substantial connections to Brent (lived here before, work here, are attending an education programme here)

  • Aged 18-24 (We will consider applications from people 24-30 where applicants have faced significant barriers to accessing work in arts and culture)

  • Interested in working in arts and culture or another creative career like design, including technical work in the arts (lights, AV, sound, building exhibitions and sets, etc)

  • Facing barriers to accessing these kinds of opportunities, recognising that the arts and creative sector is not equally accessible to people of all racial or socio-economic backgrounds, or to disabled people or people with caring and parenting responsibilities

  • Able to commit to participate in the programme for its full duration and with regular attendance

Important Details:

Payment: £2,000 to cover 1 day/week at London Living Wage + additional funds for travel costs and other access costs depending on what you need. This will be paid in instalments throughout the programme and subject to consistent participation.

Time commitment: 1 day/week on Saturdays, with some flexibility on working days July - October

Dates: Full days on Saturdays between 07 May - 01 October 2022 (22 weeks) + induction session on Saturday 23 April (part day)
